Cllr David Meller

Trustee

“I have been following the work of CLES for many years and one of my first decisions as a cabinet member for Stockport Council was to set in motion a community wealth building approach. Therefore, to be on the CLES board is a real honour: I recognise the huge potential of CLES’s work to address inequality and create a society where people feel they have some stake in how it works.”

David is the Shadow Cabinet Member for Economy and Regeneration on Stockport Council, having previously served as Cabinet Member between 2019-2022, and a member of the Greater Manchester Transport Committee. David has introduced CLES’s community wealth building approach to the Council to support its regeneration work and help create an economy where local people have a stake in how it works. When asked about why he wanted to join the organisation as a Trustee, David said

“To help contribute to this work is something I’m incredibly excited about and, by joining the board through my membership of the GM Transport Committee, I hope to see how CLES’s thinking can influence the future of Greater Manchester’s public transport network, which is so essential to developing a more equal and greener region.”

David’s interests lie in transport infrastructure, town centre regeneration and how the two can come together to address fundamental problems such as climate change, inequality and lack of housing.
