Matthew Todd

Senior Researcher

Matthew delivers policy, research, membership and consultancy work at CLES and is involved in soliciting and responding to invitations to tender and developing relationships with CLES members. He also represents CLES at external events and groups such as Manchester A Certain Future – low carbon economy working group, the Manchester Sharing Platform steering group, and The People’s Plan working group.

Matthew joined CLES in March 2015 from Shelter. Here’s what he said when we asked him, ‘why did you choose CLES?’.

‘I have been an intern at CLES in the past which gave me a feel for how the organisation operates and the values they hold. My role in the meantime at Shelter gave me the time to speak with people and begin to understand some of the economic and social challenges they faced. The role of researcher at CLES takes this one step further and allows me to contribute to the development and implementation of progressive policy and practice to address some of these challenges.

CLES also have long-term partnerships with organisations such as Manchester City Council, where our work had led to tangible changes in their procurement practices over the last decade. Being able to play a role in shaping these developments going forward and working with partners, rather than simply for them, is an exciting opportunity.

We have a small, tight knit team at CLES and this gives everyone the chance to get involved at all stages of our work and contribute to our output, in what is a respectful and encouraging work environment.
