About CLES
CLES is the national organisation for local economies and the UK centre for excellence on community wealth building.
We work with people across the UK and internationally to create better economies for people, places and the planet. In particular, we support local areas to develop new solutions to the economic and social justice challenges we face at the current time.
We do research, conduct analysis and convene conversations with partners working in local economies, including devolved and local governments, civil society and business. We use their innovation and commitment to delivery to make the case for radical change in the UK and beyond.
The need for CLES’s work has never been greater, given the challenges we face. Over the next few years, we will be prioritising our work to look at how economic change can help local places address economic democracy, the climate emergency, health inequalities and the inequalities of land and property.
About this role
We are looking for a Senior Analyst to join our team to manage and deliver impactful projects that drive positive change for local economies.
The role focuses on quantitative research projects but will also require contributing to qualitative research where needed. The holder of the role will also actively develop, manage and fundraise for new projects in support of our charitable mission and purpose.
For this role, we are keen to attract someone with well-developed quantitative research skills and who also has knowledge of data and policy relating to regional development, devolution and local government in the UK.
You can find more details on who we’re looking for and what you’ll be doing here.
Working at CLES
CLES is committed to equality of opportunity and welcomes applications from all sections of the community, and from applicants with a range of professional and lived experiences. As an organisation engaging in critical debate about a wide range of progressive policy issues, we value the creativity and range of perspectives that a diverse team can provide. We recognise that people from certain backgrounds are under-represented in CLES and think tanks more generally, and we’re committed to doing what we can to correct this. We are particularly keen to receive applications from Black, Asian and minority ethnic (global majority) people; people with disabilities; people who identify as being LGTBQI+; women and non-binary people; people who have a mental health condition; and people who identify as working class or have done so in the past. We are also aware that some highly capable prospective candidates may underestimate their own ability to do the role and not apply. With this in mind, we strongly encourage applications from anyone who is prepared to learn and grow on the job and would like to stress that past experience of working in think tanks is not required.
We are a disability confident employer and guarantee an interview to anyone who self-certifies as disabled who meets all the essential criteria. Please indicate if this applies to you in your cover letter.
In line with our values and our commitment to progressive employment practice, CLES has implemented a four-day, full pay working week, becoming one of the first think tanks in the UK to do so. This means that CLES employees working 4 days per week (Monday to Thursday) receive a full-time salary.
Other key benefits of working at CLES include:
- 6% contributory pension rising 1% for every year of employment
- 20 days annual leave rising by one year for every year of employment plus an extra day off on your birthday and at Christmas
- Enhanced maternity and paternity pay
- Regular team socials including a monthly team ‘pot luck’ lunch, annual away days and Christmas party.
