Friends of the Earth Labour Party Conference Fringe Event

Enough is enough? Transformational economics for a fairer society

Date: 1st october

Time: 7.30pm

Venue: Directors Lounge, The Palace Hotel

Our economic model is being challenged with the crises of the world financial system, banking scandals, rising debt and concerns over the future of the Euro. Meanwhile the gap between rich and poor widens. Over 21% of households in the UK are under the poverty line, wage inequality is rising and polarisation between London and the South-East and the rest of the country is becoming more entrenched.

What does a sustainable economy look like? Could a minimum living wage, a maximum wage, and a shorter working week deliver fairness and wellbeing? What other changes could be made to the structure of the economy to redress the balance? How could these changes be brought about?

Speakers include:

  • Jane Thomas, Friends of the Earth
  • Cllr Sue Murphy, Deputy Leader of Manchester City Council
  • Neil McInroy, Chief Executive, CLES
