What we do

Our activities

From our base in Manchester, we work with partners and funders in places across the UK and internationally – local governments of all scales, anchor institutions, the community and private sectors and the public – to bring them together, connect them to progressive agendas, devise solutions and deliver change. Our activities with these groups include independent action research, evaluation and performance management, best practice advice and strategy development.

Alongside this practice-based research, we  advocate for change to national debates by building progressive coalitions, amplifying innovative local economic approaches and stimulating governments of all scales to enable local economies to reach their full potential.

Our expertise

Our people are at the forefront of pioneering work relating to local economic development – community wealth building, system change and co-production, housing, public health,  place-making and planning, procurement, public sector finances – and how these disciplines can relate to the great challenges of our age, not least the environmental crisis.

Our partners

A core part of our work involves collaborating with a diverse range of partners and funders from the public, business and social sectors across the UK, Europe and beyond.
