Huw Thomas
“I am passionate about the difference the public and private sectors can make in collaboration to build resilient communities through creating opportunities to create wealth locally.”
Huw comes from Pontsian, near Llandysul; returning home to work for Hywel Dda University Health Board after gaining experience in a number of different sectors and settings across the UK. As someone who is privileged to work where he was raised as a child, Huw is passionate about the difference people should make to their local communities. That passion extends to patients and communities more broadly. Huw believes change is only brought about by focusing on delivering the outcomes that matter to those we serve.
In his early career, Huw worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP in London, Bristol and Cardiff. Initially, his clients were within the banking sector before he moved on to specialise on NHS, local authority and third sector clients. He worked for the NHS in England before moving back to Wales to work for Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board.
Huw is a Board member at Hywel Dda University Health Board; and the Trustee’s Financial Representative on the Hywel Dda University Board Charities. Huw is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland and served on their Governing Council. He has also been a trustee of the Healthcare Financial Management Association and served as the chair for their Wales branch. Huw holds an honorary professorship at Aberystwyth University.
