The cost of living scandal is savagely highlighting where local economies are failing local people. We can no longer afford to repeat the mistakes of the past. Now is the time to redesign.
On Friday 18 November in Birmingham, the fifth annual Community Wealth Building Summit will explore how community wealth building can be used as a tool, not just to survive the brutal realities we face this winter, but to learn from them. Collectively, we will diagnose the disfunctions that long predate this summer’s lack of leadership and redesign our local economies accordingly.
The only UK-wide event dedicated to examining and expanding community wealth building, this year the Summit will focus on examining the function and future of local economic development and the role that community wealth building can play in unlocking solutions to the most pressing challenges being experienced in our places.
What you’ll learn
This year’s event will present opportunities to hear from keynote speakers who will inspire delegates to be bold and take risks, as they share their experiences of progressing people-centred approaches to redesigning local economies for the better. Breakout sessions will examine how a community wealth building approach can be used to enable the sectors needed to survive the multiple crises we are experiencing and workshops will examine the levers available to build a better future.
Who it’s for
The Summit will blend inspiration and pragmatism to enable leaders and officers from local and devolved governments, anchor institutions, the social economy and civil society to navigate the cost of living scandal, housing precarity and the climate emergency.
Optional webinars introducing the key concepts of community wealth building will be available to delegates in advance of the Summit.
