CLES events at LGA Conference

Local Government Conference, Birmingham

Held over three days in Birmingham, the Local Government Association annual conference provides opportunities for delegates to engage in a range of sessions on how innovation and good practice can deliver the best local public services for our communities.  The conference and exhibition is the biggest event in the local government calendar, attracting over 1,400 delegates, 130 speakers and 120 exhibitors.

CLES will be hosting two events as part of the conference:

Community Wealth Building

3rd July, 6-7pm, Jury’s Inn, Broad Street, Birmingham.

Hosted in partnership with APSE (Association of Public Service Excellence)

Community Wealth Building: Using councils and anchor institutions to support local economies, jobs and skills.  APSE and CLES invite you to join them for a curry and drinks night debate on ‘The Case for Building Community Wealth’. This event will be held in the Jurys Inn, Broad Street, Birmingham – please contact Vicky Starmer to if you are interested in attending on vstarmer@apse.org.uk.

Inclusive Growth – fulfilling its potential?

4th July, 6-7pm, Birmingham ICC, Hall 7

The emergence of Inclusive Growth has opened up opportunities to realise an economy for all. Across the country, a range of interpretations exist. This session will bring together key thinkers to explore the concept, policy and how Local Government, Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs) and other agencies are advancing the agenda. We will also introduce CLES’ recent work on deepening inclusive growth through local wealth building and local enterprise development.

The session will be chaired by Neil McInroy, Chief Executive, CLES and joining him on the panel will be:

  • Dan Corry, Chief Executive, New Philanthropy Capital
  • Frances Northup, Principal Director, Communities & Localities, New Economics Foundation
  • Kersten England, Chief Executive, Bradford City Council
