Powering up the NHS

Ashdown 2, Holiday Inn Brighton Seafront (outside cordon)

Health institutions have enormous potential to be part of a community wealth building framework to advance social, economic and environmental justice. Enthusiasm exists for this within the NHS and it is mentioned in the Long Term Plan.

There is a huge opportunity within this for health institutions to deepen their role as economic agents – especially in regards to who they employ and how they purchase and how this can develop supply chains and the local economy. Work by The Health Foundation and CLES, in collaboration with a number of health institutions, is realising this potential, but much more needs to be done at national policy level.
