Senior researcher/researcher – £19k – £37k (dependent on experience)

The national organisation for local economies

CLES is the national organisation for local economies – developing progressive economics for people, planet and place. We work by thinking and doing, to achieve social justice and effective public services.

It is an exciting time to join the CLES team. Generally, it is a time of huge economic, social, democratic and environmental change and there is a new appetite to consider economic alternatives and to advance innovations in citizen-focussed public services. CLES’ progressive stance and practical work, places us at the vanguard of articulating, advocating and advancing changes that truly benefits people and place.

Associate Director

We work collectively as a team and in deep collaboration with partners. As Associate Director, you will identify and accelerate policy ideas and secure new business opportunities through developing networks and relationships with a range of organisations. You will play a key role in project managing and delivering work to a high standard as well as implementing a range of activities. In addition, you will help to produce policy outputs and will deliver bespoke training and membership support.

You will have over five years’ experience within a policy, research and/or consultancy environment, preferably within a think tank, local authority or other public sector agency, voluntary and community sector organisation, or consultancy. You will have experience of developing relationships with a range of stakeholders including grant-making and philanthropic organisations and securing research and policy work. We would be particularly interested to hear from individuals with experience in working to promote alternative models of enterprise ownership, from public sector insourcing, to municipal enterprises, worker ownership, co-operatives, community ownership and local private ownership. You will be self-motivated, enthusiastic, up for creative thinking, challenging orthodoxies and keen on making a difference to local places and society. The role is an opportunity to work in a unique and innovative environment.

Senior Researcher/Researcher

You will have a degree in a relevant discipline; knowledge of and interest in contemporary policy around local economic development; and ideally some experience of working/interning in an environment which undertakes research or policy formulation. You will play a key role in producing publications and in delivering activities as part of our research, consultancy and advisory commissions. This will likely include primary and secondary research, data analysis and interpretation, organising events, and contributing towards drafting bids.

CLES actively welcomes applications from all sections of society. Our aim is that we are truly inclusive and we are committed to a culture where diversity is celebrated.
