Huntly, Aberdeenshire awarded money from the Scottish Government’s Town Centre Fund.

Huntly, Aberdeenshire has been awarded around £500,000 from the Scottish Government’s Town Centre Fund, after working with Ice Cream Architecture & CLES to develop a vision, strategy and action plan for community ownership of the town square.

The funding is enabling the community to bring three prominent, vacant buildings in the square back into use, with funding covering:

  • Building and development costs for the ex Royal Bank of Scotland building (Huntly Hive);
  • Building and development costs for Square Deal;
  • Huntly Development Trust’s purchase of Cruickshanks furniture store.

CLES worked with Ice Cream Architecture to help build the capacity of the recently formed Town Team to take the lead role in the implementation of plans for the town, kickstarting a strategy to build community ownership of the town square and ensure Huntly is a thriving town for everyone.
