Time to Build an Inclusive Local Economy in Northern Ireland
On Thursday 30th May Development Trusts NI (DTNI) launched Time to Build an Inclusive Local Economy, a charter that sets out how to build local wealth and address the increasing inequalities in our society.
The Charter has been collaboratively developed by CLES and DTNI and supported by Community Foundation for Northern Ireland and Friends Provident Foundation and it is the cornerstone of a new DTNI project ‘Creating Resilient Local Economies’
Time to Build an Inclusive Local Economy sets out key steps on how to create an economy that benefits the many not the few. Poverty, low wages, job precariousness are still present in Northern Ireland and DTNI’s charter identifies systemic challenges but also opportunities to do things differently.
Neil McInroy, Chief Executive of CLES said “In localities across the UK, community wealth building has already proven to be an effective tool in delivering social and economic justice at the local level. It is a movement that seeks to restructure the economy so that wealth is widely held, shared, and democratised – representing a fundamental challenge to how it is currently conceptualised. CLES are delighted to be working with DTNI and partners to develop the Charter following the principles of community wealth building to create an inclusive local economy in Northern Ireland.”
