The Big Issue vendors have become a common sight in various parts of Britain, and form part of the backdrop of everyday life for many people as they go about their busy lives. But how often do we give more than a
passing thought to the current circumstances and life histories of homeless people? We may have some general notions, or stereotypes, but until we have a solid empirical evidence base we can do no more than speculate.
