Building a New Local Economy in Wales Conference
Join CLES and Building Communities Trust at a one-day conference taking place in Cardiff on 18 October.
For many years in Wales, we have striven to meet the challenge of building a better economy with more resilient communities. Some progress has been made, but too many communities continue to struggle.
Wales is not unique in this challenge. There is a growing global movement and agenda of change, and Wales needs to stride confidently into this agenda.
Across the country, communities, civil society, businesses and public sector are using strong networks, local identities, and creativity. They are making a difference – building stronger communities and forging new local economies.
This conference is both a celebration of good practice in Wales and beyond, as well as a call to create the conditions to build true local prosperity that benefits all our communities.
Through a series of talks and workshops, the event will:
- Hear from one of the pioneers in the global movement for change – with Ted Howard from Democracy Collaborative in the USA
- Host debate and discussions to explore how communities can develop more resilience
- Celebrate some great examples of community resilience through a series of workshops on: Developing Community Wealth, Supporting Resilient Localities, Anchor Institutions, Foundational Economy, Local Business, Social Care, and Turnaround Towns
- Look at the next steps for realising wealth for all in Wales
The Draft Agenda is available to view.
