Sandwell Anchor Institution Network Co-ordinator

Fixed term contract for 15 months. Open to flexible working.
£36k – £38k (dependent on experience)

Do you have experience of working independently to bring people together across organisations and sectors to realise change? Can you build on the commitment of Sandwell’s anchor institutions to realise practical change in the local economy through the use of their spending power, financial and physical assets? 

A Sandwell Network has the potential to represent institutions that have a combined budget of over £1.5bn and a combined workforce of over 15,000 jobs.  This means, by collaborating on work in key areas of procurement, employment and management of land and assets, they have the economic agency to play a powerful role in shaping the Sandwell economy.

The Sandwell Anchor Institution Network Co-ordinator is a new post that has been created to lead and develop this exciting collaboration of public, voluntary and commercial sector organisations in the borough. The Sandwell Co-ordinator will help build the Network and then lead the day to day work, working closely with Manchester based CLES who will provide technical and strategic support.

This role is about building organisational commitment and then converting that commitment into practical action and practical change in the operations of participating anchor institutions. We are looking for an experienced project manager who thrives working independently and has the excellent interpersonal skills needed to build and sustain strong relationships between and within organisations with people from operational services through to senior leaders and politicians.  We are not looking for a technical expert but the postholder will need to have (or acquire rapidly) an understanding of community wealth building and anchor institution strategies and be able to identify opportunities, initiate and co-ordinate action and communicate this effectively and credibly with a wide range of stakeholders. Prior experience of working in a public sector environment with its procedures regarding procurement, asset management and/or employment would be beneficial as would familiarity with Sandwell.

Although future working practices are uncertain due the current circumstances there is the expectation that the successful applicant will be able to work from a Sandwell base for at least part of each week.
