Social economy

We work with partners to grow the social economy - making community wealth building real through locally-rooted businesses that create good jobs and keep wealth local.

Social Economy
Social economy organisations include co-operatives, social enterprises and community businesses which are driven by purpose, not profit.

Unlike extractive business models that take wealth out of local areas, the social economy keeps money circulating locally and gives communities a stake in their own economic future. CLES helps places unlock the potential of the social economy by creating the conditions for these businesses to thrive – through procurement, finance support and networks. We work with local and combined authorities, anchor institutions, and social economy leaders to build stronger local economies where enterprise serves people and place.
