Mike served as a trustee of CLES from August 2009 to May 2017, and brought his extensive local government, public and social sector experience to our work. He was committed to social justice and realising the true impact that economic development can have on people’s lives. In early debates in CLES about economic development, making growth inclusive and ecologically responsible, Mike was instrumental in sowing the seeds for what has become the community wealth building movement. His commitment lives on in the work CLES does today.
He was always insightful and had great personal compassion and empathy. A truly brilliant public servant and human being. Our hearts go out to his family and many friends at this sad time.
