Alice is on secondment with CLES from City-REDI, at the University of Birmingham. Her areas of expertise are:

  • Local and regional economic development
  • Economic impact assessment
  • Appraisal and evaluation
  • Quantitative research methods

Her recent work has included building connections between CLES and higher education institutes across the UK, conducting spend analysis for several partner councils including North Yorkshire and Brent, and conducting economic impact assessments for the Association for Public Service Excellence (APSE) and Unite.

Previously, Alice worked in both central government departments and sub-national governance institutions, including Local Enterprise Partnerships.

Here’s what Alice said when we asked, “why did you choose CLES?”

Working in local economic development and place-based policy it’s difficult not to be aware of the excellent work that CLES does. Over the last couple of years, I have worked with CLES on a few occasions, and I am very excited to now be joining CLES on secondment at a time when local economic development has become a key national policy focus.

Whilst at CLES I hope to further develop my work around inclusive and sustainable local economic development, embedding the work into the Local Policy Innovation Partnership project, including the development of innovative socio-economic impact assessment methodologies.
