Local Wealth Building Summit

Nettlefold Room, The Nicolson Building, Winterbourne House, 58 Edgbaston Park Road, Edgbaston, B15 2RT

Local wealth building is no longer an ‘alternative’ but a guiding principle of a new economic model. It is also a movement, that is gaining momentum across the UK.

The summit took place on Tuesday 17th July and sought to showcase, inspire and galvanise collaborative action on local wealth building.

Acknowledging the focus on progressive procurement and the role of anchor institutions to date, this event aimed to broaden the local wealth building agenda for the UK moving forward.

It explored pioneering examples from Preston, Birmingham and Manchester, among others, while setting out the wider context and scale of what has been achieved elsewhere.

The event included presentations and panel discussions from a range of speakers, as well as interactive workshops on topics including:

  • Unlocking the power of procurement
  • Municipal enterprise
  • Inclusive economic strategy
  • Democratising local wealth ownership

This one-day summit was hosted by the University of Birmingham and was organised by the Centre for Local Economic Strategies in partnership with Barrow Cadbury Trust.
